David Dunscomb was born in Leadville in 1958 to George Dunscomb and Dolores (Bond). They never would have imagined that he would have made it to 67 years old. The youngest of three children, he was a wild child who may have fractured an occasional law. He loved to ski fast and spent time on Ski Patrol at Copper Mountain. He also did a little flying in his Ford Fairlane. Dave graduated from Lake High School and worked at Climax after graduation. He had a knack for fixing things and worked in maintenance for several years, ending his working years at Clear Creek County School District.
Dave met the love of his life, Suzanne Bennett in 2003 in a chatroom online. After exchanging emails and chatting for a few weeks, he drove two hours to Lakewood to meet her for dinner. He came back the next weekend, and they had a wonderful time getting to know each other and watched various firework displays as it was the 4th of July weekend. He proposed in December, and they were stuck together for the next 22 years. They were married at Lake McConaghy, Nebraska, August 28, 2004. Since Dave worked in Leadville and Suzanne worked in Denver, they ended up renting a cabin in Lawson, Colorado and eventually settled in Georgetown until a recent move to the plains. Dave's heart always belonged to the mountains.
Dave and Suzanne were never blessed with children. Their furballs became their children. This was truly a case of a dog person making it work with a crazy cat lady. Although Dave was shy in social situations, he jumped headfirst into Suzanne's large boisterous family.
Dave's Aunt Snookie called him the 'pick of the litter' to which Dave would say that it wasn't much of a litter. His sister-in-law called him 'a prince among men', after he brought her a hot cup of coffee on a cold vacation morning. To that he remarked that, "she doesn't really know me". Suzanne, Dave's coworkers, family, and friends, knew that he would do anything he could to help someone in need. He would tell Suzanne that she saved his life, but he truly gave her a lifetime of love, laughter, and support.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dolores Dunscomb and his brother George Dunscomb. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Bennett) Dunscomb, sister-in-law Ellen (Selby) Dunscomb, step-mother-in-law Jan Bennett, brother-in-law Eric Bennett (Debbie), sisters-in-law Lori Skelton, Julie Bennett, and his sister Karen Grossaint. He also has many nieces and nephews and a plethora of other in-laws.
