David Michael Eagle
David Michael Eagle, 70, of Monroe died Saturday, October 4 after a brief battle with an aggressive liver cancer.
David was born February 3, 1955, in Jeromesville, Ohio, to Milo and Virginia (Sponsler) Eagle, joining the family as the youngest of three brothers.
He attended Hillsdale High School in Jeromesville, where he developed a love for football and science. After graduating in 1973, he received an athletic scholarship to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He graduated in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in science education.
A lifelong educator, David briefly taught at schools in Georgia and Indiana. He spent the majority of his career at Pike-Delta-York Local Schools in Delta, Ohio, where he was a chemistry and science teacher and coach at Delta High School. He retired in 2015.
David married Angela Jo McElvany in June 1990. They were married for 30 years, raising three children at their home in Monroe. David will be remembered for his humility, kindness and ability to deliver jokes, one-liners and moments of humor.
David is survived by his daughter, Sommer Eagle (Kellie Johnson) of Adrian; sons, Tyler Eagle and Spencer Eagle, both of Monroe; his cherished fur babies, Oliver and Ella; brother, Russell Eagle of Jeromesville, Ohio; his beloved Slone sisters: Linda Snyder (Steve); Sherry Barg (Andy); Karen Yoder (Tony); and Donna Steele; and several nephews, nieces and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Angela Eagle; parents, Milo and Virginia Eagle; and brother Donald Eagle.
For the last year, David was under the care of Fountain View of Monroe. He developed close bonds with the compassionate and caring team members at the facility. The Eagle family is forever grateful to those caregivers and those at Beacon Hospice, who provided exceptional care for David and his family during his illness.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 12 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rupp Funeral Home located at 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, Michigan 48161. A funeral service will take place Monday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Rupp Funeral Home. Procession and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, Michigan.
