David Alan Eckerd, age 77, of Mustang, passed away on July 31, 2024. He was born in OKC on August 8, 1946, to Clair Franklin and Marjorie Belle (Landrum) Eckerd. He graduated from Southeast High School. After high school, he joined the US Navy and served two tours in Vietnam.
After the Navy, David returned to OKC and began working at a carpentry shop before working for Dayton Tire, where he worked in the stock room. He was an active member of the United Rubber Workers' Union.
In 1974, he married Jone Svejkovsky, and the couple blended their families and began their lives together.
David was a man who loved cars, especially fast cars. In fact, "anything with wheels that burned gas" interested him. He enjoyed hot rods street rods. He attended many car shows and car auctions. He was a big fan of NASCAR, especially driver Chris Bell. His pride and joy was the '37 Chevy that he restored himself – twice.
David is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jone; sons Tim Eckerd and wife Janna, Scott Eckerd and wife Jamie, and Richard Eckerd and wife Kristi; daughter Amanda Duck and husband Wayne; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one on the way; brothers Steve Eckerd and wife Vicki, Sid Eckerd and wife Nancy; and brother-in-law Keith Svejkovsky and wife Connie.
Public visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 7th, from 1-5pm at McNeil's Funeral Service.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 8th, at 10am in the McNeil's Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at the Rose Hill Burial Park.
