David Fast Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2010.
David W. Fast passed away Friday, September 24, 2010, with his family at his side. Dave was born March 27, 1934, in a log cabin at Newport, WA, to John and Helen Fast. He married Pauline Kitzmiller on April 16, 1954, in Dallas, OR, where their two sons, David L. and Donald R., were born. The family moved to the Tri-Cities in 1960. Dave went to work for Jewel Motors, which is now Overturf Motors, where he worked for the next 36 years. As a hobby, he built sand rails and dune buggies and enjoyed playing in the big sands of the Oregon Coast with friends and family. He shared his knowledge of camping, fishing, hunting and car repair with his boys and their friends while they were growing up. These friends, both male and female, remained close to Dave throughout the years. He was a renowned mechanic, and enjoyed restoring vintage VW’s. Several of these were featured in VW Magazines. He and Pauline enjoyed participating in innumerable car shows, routinely winning best of class. They made dozens of friends both through dune buggies and car shows. After Pauline died in 1995, Dave continued to participate in car shows, often accompanied by his friend, Pat. For the past 4 ½ years, he was well-cared for by his second family at Hawthorne Court, and enjoyed the American's hockey games for which tickets and transportation were provided. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, his son, David, a brother, and sisters, Leah and Dorothy. He is survived by his son Don and his wife, Katie; daughter-in-law, Carmal; grandchildren Josh Prock and his wife, Carla; and Heidi (Prock) Law and her husband, Mark; great-grandchildren Dylan, Boone and Brody Prock, and Michael Law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Don and Katie will host an open house for friends and family on Saturday, October 9th, beginning at 2PM, to celebrate the life and times of Dave Fast.
