David George Flood (Papa Moose), 75, of Middle Grove, MO passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 12, 2023.

Dave was born on June 5, 1948, in Springfield, MO to Harold & Freda Flood. He graduated from Parkview High School in 1966 and on June 13, 1966 he married Rebecca Flood (Thomas) in Republic, MO. In 1968 they made Moberly, MO their home after their vehicle broke down and they fell in love with the helpful community. Together they raised their three boys there, and welcomed many grandchildren as the years went by. His grandchildren lovingly called him Papa Moose and valued the time he spent with them. Dave was lovingly viewed as a father figure/mentor to many throughout the community. A jack of all trades, he was able to fix or build about anything. His primary occupation was construction which he worked for roughly 45 years alongside his longtime friend, Ralph Moore (Flood and Moore Homebuilders). His other jobs include working for Swiss Village Homes, construction on the road and driving a truck where he got his beloved CB handle/nickname of Moose.

Dave was strong willed and stubborn “at times”, he had an enormous heart, witty sense of humor, contagious laugh, and a bright outlook on life. His good humor was shown through his playful antics, it was one of the many ways he showed his love towards friends and family. His ability to fix anything led to him being the first responder for any and all family emergencies whether that be a flat tire, flooded basement or a construction project. He was quick to welcome all friends and family to his place for all sort of events, especially the annual Flood 4th of July. It was an impossible task to get Dave to pose for a picture unless it involved the outdoors. The outdoors always held a special place in his heart as he filled his time with hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening, bee keeping, and a host of other hobbies. He was a proud, and the only, member of the Middle Grove neighborhood watch. Dave represented what it meant to have a man’s best friend as he was always seen with a dog by his side and spent countless evenings cruising around town with his dog in the “Dawg Mobile” as he affectionately called his car.

When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly!

Dave is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Freda Flood, his beloved wife Rebecca Flood, his sister Carol McSwain, his son Eric Flood, his daughter in law Kittie Flood, and nephew Greg McSwain.

Dave is survived by children, Nick and Andee Flood; Marcus and Karie Flood; daughter in law, Cecilia Flood; grandchildren: Josie Davidson (Forest), Creed Flood (Elizabeth), Sydney Flood, Gabriel Flood, Camren Miller, Adam Miller, Lukas Miller (Veronica), Camille Schumann (Mitch), Jacob Flood (Paige), Emma Elliott (Jacob), Gavin Steward, Keegan Steward; great grandchildren: Rosalie, Ellie, Colter Schumann, and Dexter Miller, extended family: Scott McSwain (Kimberly fiancé), Todd McSwain (Audrey), Kelli McSwain, Zachary McSwain and an abundance of close family friends.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, followed by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO. Interment will take place at Middle Grove Cemetery directly after services.
