David Lee Friedman, 69, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, March 8th, 2026.
David was born in Shamokin Hospital on October 10th, 1956 and was the son of the late Nancy (Snyder) Friedman and the late Bernard Saks Friedman.
He was a 1974 graduate of Shamokin Area High School and had a career in retail management. David spent 35 years with Rite Aid working a myriad of positions which ultimately led him to managing several different stores within the area. After his time with Rite Aid, David transitioned to the Dollar General for several more years. David was well known amongst his customers as a jovially people person. He was dedicated to his work and the people he served within the community.
David was an avid sportsman; he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He traveled the northeast for various game and proudly showed off his hunting and fishing trophies. No matter what time of year, he always had a story to tell about the previous or upcoming hunting season to anyone that would listen.
David’s toughest fight in life was his battle with cancer which he ultimately beat and has been cancer free for over nine years. It may have slowed his body down but his spirit was always unyielding.
David is survived by his son, Eric and wife Kelly, and his granddaughter Ava; his daughter Ashley, and his grandson, Cameron and his granddaughters, Ryann and Laney; his sister, Sherry Thiroway and husband Richard; his nephew, Brian Thiroway and wife Erin and their daughter Julia.
