David C. Gast, 89

David C. Gast, 89 of Ashland, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in his home with his family by his side.

He was born on February 1, 1937, in Lodi, Ohio, the son of the late Leroy and Golda (nee Heister) Gast.

David graduated from Polk High School, Class of 1954. He was a successful chemist, businessman involved in many projects involving PPE (personal protective equipment) for the medical community.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley (nee Bryan) Gast of Ashland; his children, Sherry (Clyde) Fultz, Debora (Brian) Fulk, Wayne Gast, and Angie Bassel; seven grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Dress, Holly Fultz, Cris (Patrick Walsh) Thomas, Shannon (Landon) Albers, Josh and Jared (Merideth) Crabtree, and Christy (Chris) Doss; many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and one brother, Dean (Nancy) Gast.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by Shirley's parents, Alfred and Bessie Bryan; and one brother, Glenn (Josephine) Gast.

In keeping with his wishes, a private graveside service will be held in the Polk Cemetery at a later date.
