David Gatewood Obituary

David "Gator" Jerome Gatewood, 78, of Brockway, PA passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He bravely endured a lengthy battle with several illnesses.

David was the son of the late Don and Helen Gatewood of Kane, PA.

He graduated from Kane High School.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rhonda K. (Wriggle), daughters Adrienne (Ken) Brown, Sarah (Will) Price, Erin (Mason) Farrell, his son Paul (Mar), sisters Nancy Poikonen and Ginny Confer, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, John, and Tom.

David proudly served in the U.S. Air Force between 1964-1968. During his year of service in Quang Tri, Vietnam, as a radio operator, he was awarded a Bronze Star. Following his return, he established his career as an industrial engineer.

He was a lifelong car and truck enthusiast. He enjoyed restoring classic vehicles, going to car shows, hunting, nature, and golfing. He loved animals and especially his dogs over the years.

He had a unique sense of humor, a love of life, his country, and his family. Music was his biggest comfort and joy. He loved to sing for his family any chance he could. He exemplified values of integrity, a strong work ethic, and an unwavering faith in God. His family will always admire his immense strength and perseverance.

Family and close friends will privately celebrate his life as he requested.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the organizations he was most passionate about: The American Cancer Society and/or The Humane Society.

He will be eternally missed and loved by everyone who knew him.

Ade- We are so sorry for the loss of your Dad. It´s been so many years since I saw him, but I do remember he was very kind and funny and obviously a special person to be the pillar of strength and stability of your family even amid his health challenges. Reading his obituary was sad, but nice to learn more about him. We wish you, Kenny, Chantal, Kaitlyn, Sarah and of course your Mom and your entire family our deepest condolences as you go through this difficult time. I hope knowing he is in peace will comfort you. Love you guys.

Living in another state, I didn´t see my grandpa as much as we all would have liked but the memories we have together are ones I will cherish forever! I know he loved to sing Michael Bublé, he was obsessed with the Pants On the Ground song when it first came out , and I heard many of his "When I was at Band Camp" stories. He was a character for sure and will be deeply missed. I am sad my son didn´t get to meet him in person, but am grateful they got to meet over facetime, and pop gave him a nickname that we love! Love and miss you forever pop!
