David Gianotti Obituary

David "Bruce" Gianotti died on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Pendleton, Oregon, after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life at Goldie's in the Pendleton Convention Center.

Bruce was born on January 27, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee to Jane (Erskine) and Francis B. Gianotti. He attended Christian Brothers High School and graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor's degree in History. He worked briefly in the insurance business and as a teacher before beginning what would become a successful, life-long career in home remodeling. Bruce could see a "diamond in the rough" in both homes and people. During his more than 50 years in this business, Bruce was a mentor, confidant, and friend to many.

In 1980, Bruce moved to Pendleton, Oregon. There he met and in 1988 married his lovely and devoted wife, Margaret Gohl Hansen. He continued his career in real estate and eventually turned his passion for antiques into a business, opening Vintage Court Antiques in downtown Pendleton. After retiring, Bruce continued to express his love of furniture in the beautiful, hand-made tables and other wood pieces he created in his own woodshop.

Bruce was involved in community life in Memphis and in Pendleton. He was a longtime member of The University Club of Memphis and served as president of the Phoenix Club, supporting Boys' and Girls' Clubs in the Memphis area. In Pendleton, he was frequently involved behind the scenes and at events for the Pendleton Center for the Arts, the Oregon East Symphony, and Blue Mountain Community College Foundation, supporting Margaret's passion for these important community organizations. Bruce enjoyed food and wine, cooking daily for his family and often sharing meals with friends in need. He and Margaret enjoyed the Kill Kare Club and their supper club for many years. Bruce was an avid fan of court sports, enjoying tennis, racquetball, and handball throughout his life and even winning state-wide racquetball tournaments at the height of his game. Bruce was a founding member of the NET and a regular at the Round-Up Athletic Club for over 40 years, continuing until just weeks before his death.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Frank Gianotti, his step-mother Frances Manire Gianotti, and step-brother Jesse Winchester. He leaves his wife of 37 years, Margaret Gohl Gianotti; children Mia (Paul) Henley, Jane (Tommy) Byrnes, David (Shiloh) Gianotti, and Keith Hansen; mothers-in-laws Sharon VanLeuven and Virginia Gohl; brother Frank (Anne) Gianotti; step-siblings Ellyn Weeks and Cassius Winchester; brothers-in-law Robert (DeeAnn) and Chris (Linda) Gohl; cousin Silvia Erskine; grandchildren Kaleb and Bell Hansen; Edward, John and George Henley; and Sara and Thomas Byrnes; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Russell B. Harrison, Dr. John M. McBee, the care team from Good Shepherd Hospice and the devoted staff at Suttle Care. Memorials in honor of Bruce should be directed to the Pendleton Foundation Trust or to the charity of the donor's choice.

I grew up on Rozelle Street in Memphis about two doors from the Gianotti`s. I knew Bruce for a long time in Memphis, and we frequently were engaged in handball games at the University club I remember that he was in the home remodeling business even in those days. It took a lot of energy to do that kind of work and then play a hard game of handball in the late afternoon. I remember Bruce fondly George Owen.
