David J. Gjeltema, 54, of Douglas passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Gjeltema was the former Vice President of GBI Construction Co. in Douglas. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4, and was currently employed by Central Mass. Crane Services. David was born September 16, 1960 in Springfield, VT, the son of Harold and Barbara (Carpenter) Gjeltema of Douglas, and was a longtime resident of Douglas. He was a graduate of Norfolk Agricultural School, Norfolk, Class of 1978. He was a former Deacon of the Thompson Congregational Church in Thompson, CT. David enjoyed history and boating. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, David J. Gjeltema Jr. and Timothy H. W. Gjeltema, both of Whitinsville; one daughter, Lauren K. and her husband Jack Cadarette of Oxford; five sisters, Brenda and her husband Brian Ridgeway of Eastham, Debra and her husband Michael Ferguson of Douglas, Cheryl and her husband Gary Chase of Holden, Susan and her husband David Colton of Douglas, and Nancy and her husband James O'Rourke of Sutton; three grandchildren, John Cadarette, Cameron Cadarette and Chloe Davis, all of Oxford; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved friends and co-workers. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, One Bulfinch Place, 2nd floor, Boston, MA 02114. Arrangements are under the direction of the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, Whitinsville.
