David W. Glies at age 81, of Fombell, PA, passed away Saturday evening, August 16, 2025. He was in UPMC Passavant Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
He was born in Bellevue, PA, on November 23, 1943. He was the son of the late Elmer H. Glies and Gladys J. Dauer Glies Weyman.
Dave was a Christian who had a profound impact on many people. He was known for his generosity towards family, friends and strangers.
In 1979, Dave was medically disabled as an auto mechanic from BillCo VW of Wexford, PA. He served there 18 years. Prior to that he and his father ran Moose's Garage in Wexford, PA.
Dave was well known for his mechanic ability. As a self-taught chassis engineer for circle dirt track racing, he spent most Saturdays on the phone getting updates of Friday night's events from multiple racers. He loved working on cars, helping them build and driving his Semi-Late #65. In the racing community he was known as Dave "The Hat" Glies. His intellectual contribution to the auto racing sport was extensive through several decades.
He loved his family. He called each of his children every day and sometimes several times a day to make sure they were okay.
Dave loved Christmas. He dressed the part with his white beard and always passed out Candy Canes each Christmas Season.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his step-father, Harold Weyman, his brother, Elmer, his sister, Greer and a granddaughter, Tiffanie.
He is survived by his wife, Linda C. Kline Glies; daughter, Linda (Ike) Eisenbrown of Ellwood City, PA; son, Dale "Buzz" (Darla) Glies of Knoxville, TN; daughter, LeaAyn (Dave) Petti of Wampum, PA; son, Dustyn Glies of Pittsburgh, PA.
Ten grandchildren, Dalton, Abbey (Donnie), Brandon; Michelle (Travis), David (Amy), Dani, Dylan (Brittney), Dora; David (Abby) and Kailyn (Braydon).
Four great-grandchildren, Wyatt; Ben, Emma and Maddox and his faithful beloved dog Tucker.

My sincere sympathy to all his family and friends. I met Dave at his daughter Linda's exercise class. He was such a positive , pleasant person. He always had a nice warm smile for everyone he met. He had a way of lifting your spirits. He will be missed.

The first time I met Dave was in the parking lot of Bilo. I was about 8 months pregnant and he stopped me and said "hey I bet that's a girl in there!" He was right! Then he told me how he dressed up like Santa and to bring her to meet him sometime. Fast forward about 7 years when I'm working at Dr. Fleming's and who comes in, but Santa himself! He and I would talk while he was waiting for his appointment and we learned so many things about each other! Any time you would say "hi! How are you?" He would say "not as good as you!" And it turned into a game of which one of us could say it first when we saw each other. I always enjoyed his calls and visits to the office and I told him to stop in my shop to chat anytime, once I left Docs. I'm so sad that he never made it in. My sympathy goes out to all who loved him, he was a very special guy!
