On May 16, 2025 David Gonzalez, devout catholic, UST Celt, Godfather, brother, friend, activist, leader, and volunteer passed away at the age of 29 surrounded by his family.
He was 1 of 3 children born to Pete and Brendy Gonzalez on Feb 1, 1996 in Houston, Tx. David grew up in Houston, Texas but spent most of his life in Hockley, Texas. David is a proud Texan.
David attended Waller high and graduated 4th in his class, later his collegiate career led him to his Master's degree in Philosophy with minor studies in Theology and Classical Languages. David was hired by Fable in August of 2023 a software development company out of Canada as a website tester. This company hires people with disabilities.
David was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at the age of 6 years old, even though the disease kept him in a wheelchair at the age of 9 it did not affect his outlook in life. While in junior high David joined the Houston Fireballs, a wheelchair power soccer team and immediately excelled as player and leader in the soccer field that lasted until he was 20 years old. When he became a freshman at Waller High he joined the football team (scored a touchdown), joined the air force junior ROTC (where he traveled with the team to Washington DC and competed at a world level), UIL academic team, and theater. He also created Coach To Cure MD Waller in conjunction with parentprojectmd.org this non-profit works 24 hours a day 7 days week to find a cure for DMD and that resulted in David being honorary team captain when the Rice owls football team played against the Baylor Bears. Celts to Cure was established his sophomore year by David at the University of St Thomas in Houston and remains a favorite non-profit as of today. David wanted to find a cure not for himself, he was aware it was going to be too late for him but knew this could help the younger generation of men being affected by DMD.
During his free time he enjoyed traveling all over Texas, enjoyed watching movies and shows with family, and eating out. His weakness was a good Irish whiskey. He also volunteered for Parent Project, the MDA, school, JJ WATT foundation and church. David never missed a dance from junior high until he graduated from St. Thomas in the summer of 2023, except during COVID. David also loved hunting, his spoils include harvesting a 2000 pound albino water buffalo and a 16 point buck.
His 2 grandfathers preceded him, Joaquin Gonzalez and Manuel Cabrera.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents, 2 brothers; Michael and Emmanuel Gonzalez and Grandmas; Flora Medina and Hortencia Gonzalez.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gladly accepted in his memory for the Parent Project at https://donate.parentprojectmd.org/davidgonzalez
