David Gran Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mitzvah Memorial Funerals - Northbrook on Oct. 12, 2025.
David Gran, age 84. Beloved husband for 63 years to Maxine, nee Nemeroff; cherished father of Beth (Barry) Dordick and Marc Gran; loving grandfather of Jacqueline (the late James) Harnden, Marissa Dordick, Benjamin Gran, Ethan Gran and great-grandchild-Avery Harnden; son of the late George and Anne Gran, dear brother of the late Marlene (the late Jack) Pilger, brother in law of the late Michael Nemeroff; uncle, cousin and friend to many.

David was born in Chicago, where he attended Roosevelt High School and met the love of his life, Maxine. Married in 1962, they began a wonderful life together, moving from the city to the suburbs-Arlington Heights, Libertyville, and Long Grove-before retiring to Ft. Myers, Florida. They later settled in The Villages and eventually made their home in South Carolina.

For more than 35 years, David worked at Fel-Pro in Skokie, where he oversaw many departments and made lifelong friendships. While working full time, he completed his degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois and proudly became a father to Beth and Marc. Known affectionately as "Handsome Dave," he was loved for his energy, humor, and ability to turn any occasion into a celebration.

Sports were always at the heart of David's life. Baseball was his greatest passion, but he also excelled at bowling, golf, pickleball, racquetball, tennis, and even games he invented himself. True to his engineering spirit, he meticulously tracked every score, bracket, and statistic-any excuse to build a new Excel spreadsheet brought him joy. A lifelong Cubs fan, David founded the Cubs Club in The Villages, which still boasts over 300 members, and even authored a book celebrating the team's historic 2016 World Series win.

David and Maxine shared a love of travel, exploring the world with family and friends and creating countless memories along the way.

Above all, David was a devoted family man-the rock who kept everyone laughing, playing games, and celebrating life's moments, big and small. His warm embrace and generous heart made everyone feel special.

For those fortunate enough to know David, each has their own cherished memories of better days-filled with laughter, love, and friendship. May those memories live on in all of us, until we meet again.

Graveside funeral service Friday, October 17th at 1:30 PM CST at Westlawn Cemetery, Gardenia Section, 7801 W. Montrose, Norridge, IL. Family and friends who cannot attend can watch the funeral on David's webpage on www.mitzvahfunerals.com live, or any time after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's name to the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Mitzvah Memorial Funerals, 630-MITZVAH 630-648-9824

Always brought a smile. A great man. Sorry to hear of his passing, but had heard he was not doing well. Glad he is at peace. Will always remember with great memories of my neighbor across the street. Rest in Peace

Though we met Dave late in his life, we will remember him and his precious family so fondly.

Dear Maxine, Beth, Marc and family,

We've only known David 14 months. But in that time, getting to know all of you, showed us what a wonderful man he was. We always looked forward to seeing him when we'd visit John. We hope you find comfort in your wonderful memories and knowing he's at peace. Please don't hesitate to call if any of you need anything.

Love, the Peverelle Family
(John, Sue, Chris, Lindsey & Mike)
