David Kenneth Green, lovingly known by those close to him as "Kenny," went home to be with the Lord after a long and beautiful life, one filled with love, laughter, and faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornie Wynn and Lillie Mae Green, his seven brothers and sisters, Cornie Wynn Green Jr. (June), Jack Green, James Green, Kathleen Whitley and Dorothy Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Green, two children, Keith (Denise) Green and Lisa Green Blackburn. His sisters Virginia (Jimmy) Norris and Louise Patterson. His grandchildren and great grandchildren Amber (Sam) Carpenter and their four children, Maddie, Ethan, Logan and Wade. McKenzie Blackburn and her partner, Leeron Koretzky and their two children, Alana and Ari. Valerie (Kole) Herman and their daughter, Eloise and Kenny's beloved grandson, Ryan Green.
His life was filled by the many hats that he wore. He was a deacon at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, an avid gardener and worked hard for many years operating heavy machinery. His most special titles were being a loyal husband, the most incredible father, and being the best "Papa" and "Grandpa Green", any child could have.
Kenny's story bloomed when he met the love of his life, Vivian, in 1954. Kenny created a beautiful life with his sweetheart, Vivian, in Whiteville, North Carolina, the town the two of them called home for many years. From being kids together, to being a husband and wife building a family together, their love was steady, enduring and true -a shining example of God's design for marriage.
Together, Kenny and Vivian raised two children, Keith Green (Denise) and Lisa Green Blackburn, who would become his pride and joy. His family grew with Keith and Lisa's children and grandchildren who he loved dearly.
Kenny's heart was the fullest in the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one a treasure to him: Amber Carpenter and her husband Sam (Maddie, Ethan, Logan, Wade) Ryan Green, Valerie Herman and her husband Kole (Eloise), and McKenzie Blackburn and her partner Leeron Koretzky (Alana and Ari).
To his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was not just "Dad", "Papa" or "Grandpa Green" - he was a gentle guide, a warm smile, and a steady presence, always showing love in the simplest and truest of ways.
Kenny was a devout man of God. Each night he went to his bed with his Bible in hand, his life an example of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and gratitude for the blessings he had been given. He may have been a quiet man and a man of few words, but when he spoke, he spoke with intent, love and concern. He taught his family not only through words, but through the way he lived-with humility, patience, faith and love.
He leaves behind a legacy not written in grand gestures, but in the small, everyday moments of kindness and faithfulness that became the fabric of a beautiful life. To know Kenny was to know loyalty, laughter, and the comfort of a man who loved deeply and lived faithfully. He will be missed so dearly by all who were blessed enough to know him.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, Kenny's spirit remains-woven into the hearts of those who loved him, carried forward in the family he cherished, and alive in the eternal promise of the God he served so faithfully every moment of his life.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced soon by Worthington Funeral Home.
