David E. Gregg Jr. Feb. 1, 1943 – Feb. 19, 2014 MISHAWAKA - David E. Gregg Jr. of Mishawaka, Indiana passed away Wednesday February 19, 2014 following a lengthy illness in Fort Myers, Florida at the Hope Hospice House, at the age of 71. David was born on February 1, 1943 in South Bend to the late David E. Gregg Sr. & Mary Jane (Rendall) Gregg. David was a well-respected and admired businessman in the community. As the former owner of BW Heating and Cooling (formerly Builders Whitt) he enjoyed and embraced the opportunity of serving his customers, and his employees. Dave joined the downtown South Bend Rotary club in 1984 where he maintained a perfect attendance record for over 22 years, and in that time also received two Paul Harris awards. Dave also was a member of the Lakeville Lions Club during the 1960's and served as third Vice President during the 1967-68 club year. Dave graduated from Lakeville High School in 1961. In 1960 Dave helped to lead the Lakeville basketball team in winning the Saint Joseph County Championship. His high school lettered basketball jacket has been on display at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle, IN for many years. Dave enjoyed spending time outdoors boating, fishing and riding his Ski-Doo snowmobile throughout Michigan, Wisconsin and Canada with many of his friends. Dave was a passionate sports fan and loved watching and supporting Notre Dame football and basketball. He was a very strong, independent, kind, and caring man who will be lovingly missed by his friends. Dave is survived by his brother James (Hudai) Gregg of Atlanta, GA and sister Patricia Ross of Bartlett, TN; his close, dedicated friends James Todd & Michele Mann; his godchildren Nicolette Mann & Tyler Mann, and daughter Jill (Hawk) Van Lew. Also surviving are grandchildren Mary (Augustus) Allen & David Brummett; great grandchildren Augustus Allen III & Eleanor Allen; nephews Jason (Brandi) Gregg, Robert (Carrie) Gregg, Matthew Ross, and James Y. Gregg; 3 great nephews, 2 great nieces and many loving cousins. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the memory of David E.
