David Joseph Grostic, Sr., 69, of
Montgomery, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025. David was the loving husband of fifteen years to Monica Grostic and a devoted father to Gabriela Grostic, David Grostic Jr., Lia Thompson, and Keren Thompson. He was a beloved brother to Susan Chamberlain, Nancy Grostic Massetti, Judy Grostic Steinberg, and Don Grostic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Patricia Grostic, and his sister, Teresa Grostic. David was born on March 30, 1956, in
Burlington, Vermont. As a young man David proudly served in the United States Air Force in a strategic missile squadron, where he received awards for his service as a missile launcher. His decision to serve was inspired by his father, who also served in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, David built a career working in a variety of roles across multiple industries. He was known for his strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and ability to adapt wherever he worked. He retired five years ago. In retirement, David stayed active and hands-on. He enjoyed fishing, crafting leather goods, building model airplanes, and cooking and baking. He had a lifelong interest in aviation and mechanics and took pride in learning how things worked and fixing them himself. David will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, empathy for others, and honesty. He was never one to beat around the bush and always told it like it was. Though he was a quiet man who often kept to himself, he was also a force to be reckoned with. He never backed down from a challenge and could do or fix just about anything when he put his mind to it. David was also a skilled negotiator and a man of his word. He loved his pets, including his dogs and a rescue bunny. Above all, David was a devoted family man who loved his family unconditionally. He was a proud and caring husband, father, and son who deeply admired his own father and would have undoubtedly made him proud.
