David Guile Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home - Amsterdam on Nov. 8, 2025.
David A. Guile passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Gloversville, NY. He was born on March 17, 1955, in Bennington, VT, son of the late Clifford J. and Gladys (Hunt) Guile. David is predeceased by his brothers, George Guile, Sr. of Eagle Bridge, NY, and John Guile of Hoosick Falls, NY. David is survived by his sister, Anna Kelly (Emerson) of Guilderland, NY, his sister-in-law, Ann Marie Guile of Hoosick Falls, NY, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Wherever he was, David made friends easily, owing to his open and accepting nature. He asked for and offered help wherever he could. In Albany, NY, where he lived before moving to Gloversville in the early 2010s, David attracted three individuals who have truly loved and supported him for many years - his lady friend Dianne Burke; and William Tuthill and Gregory Anderson, who were brothers as much as they were friends. The same was true in Gloversville, where David enjoyed and profited greatly from the generosity and love of Jim and Christine Joyce, of Hadley; Grace Osborne, Larry Chisholm and Art and Jill Young of Gloversville. There are many others in the two communities who gave and received love. David grew up in Eagle Bridge, NY, where his family had a small farm. He was an adventurous child; once his parents found him riding one of their cows. David was never afraid of work; when he was a teen, he worked in the family's grocery store, helping to prepare deli foods, stocking shelves and handling the cash register. As an adult, he sometimes held two jobs at a time. Every year he enjoyed working at the local county fairs, setting up amusement rides, building concession stands and helping all to run smoothly. He was also a volunteer fireman, always eager to help the people in his community. Unfortunately, during one particularly serious fire, there was a backdraft that forced him off of a ladder and onto the ground. It left him with permanent damage to one leg, causing the slight limp familiar to all those who knew him. Later in his life, David moved to an apartment complex in Gloversville, NY, where befriended many people; he thoroughly enjoyed his apartment and became quite a collector. He had shelves containing almost two hundred nutcrackers as well as fire engines, cars, ships and various Christmas collectibles. His favorite holiday was Christmas, and he always held a holiday party every year; it was a big event. David was always a big kid at heart - at his Christmas party last year, he greeted everyone at the door in an elf costume, complete with elf shoes with curled, pointed toes. He loved entertaining. He was always a very giving person, everyone knew he had a big heart, we all loved him. He will be deeply missed. Visitation and funeral service to be held at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078, on Friday, November 21, 2025. Visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Celebration of Life service at 12:00 pm. To leave a message for the family, please visit brbsfuneral.com

Sending condolences for David & his family/all who knew & loved him . I had the privilege of meeting him in June, 2024, when I visited from Canada. My family friend (Christine Joyce) initially introduced me to Dave long distance. It was my hope to meet him in person, and that happened last summer . He was a gentle soul . Kind and talkative. A great conversationalist .
My favourite memory will be when Christine took us to the (country store) & we bought treats . We made sure to treat him to a cold `sarsaparilla". May he rest in peace . Surrounded by love.
