Eleanor Young Obituary
She was born April 13, 1936 in Amsterdam, and she was the daughter of the late Clement and Stella Kedik Barker. She was a 1955 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch high School in Amsterdam. Eleanor was a first employed as a certified nurse assistant at the former Mt. Loretto Nursing home in Amsterdam and later she worked as a certified home health care aide for Community Health Center in Johnstown. retiring in 1994.
She was a parishioner of the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and a one-time member of the Living Rosary Society of the church. Eleanor was a communicant of St. Mary's roman Catholic church in Amsterdam.
Eleanor loved music and playing the piano and dancing. she enjoyed walking Stella Lane and the Amsterdam Mall.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert A. Young Sr. who died in 1976 and her son, Robert A. Young Jr. who passed away July 19, 2025 and her sister, Janet Barker.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Young- Bates and her husband Donald of Amsterdam, two brothers, Clement W. Barker Sr. and Charles C. Barker (Eileen), both of Amsterdam, four sisters, Mary Jane Phelps of Amsterdam, Patricia Ann Sandy of Roanoke, VR, Jessie Bartosik of Hagaman and Kathleen Korona (David) of Amsterdam, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi, Belling & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Fr. Nathaniel Resila as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Casimir's cemetery in Amsterdam. Those wishing may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org.
