Gregory Knack Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose & Hughes Funeral Home on Feb. 28, 2026.
Greg, 57, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on August 29,1968 to MaryJane and Randy Knack. He graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1986 and went on to graduate from FMCC in 1989 and SUNY Brockport in 1992.

He married Peg Greve on September 28,1996 at St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hempstead, NY.

Greg worked with his mother and father as Vice President and Co-owner of Group Purchasing Services for 25 years. During that time they earned many awards including top affiliate. In 2017, Greg joined Vizient as a Senior Spend Manager. With Vizient, Greg was consistently on the President Club list for his hard work, dedication, and commitment to service. Greg loved his job and he looked forward to working with his colleagues.

He brought his organizational skills and drive to the many service organizations that he belonged to. He supported any organization that his three sons were involved in. He started with Amsterdam Youth Soccer Club (AYSC). Besides simply being the treasurer for the club for many years, he was involved in many aspects of the club. He dealt with ordering and distributing uniforms, recruiting and assigning volunteers, coordinating pictures, and running the snack shack. Every Saturday morning, he was on the fields early and working hard to make sure everything was ready for the players and families. The coffee was always hot and the breakfast pizza was always there. His work made the AYSC a huge success for many years. In addition to AYSC, he was a silent supporter for the Amsterdam High School Cross Country program. He would ensure that the hot water, Ramen, and hot chocolate were available for the team each week. He also helped fundraise for the Harvest Classic. Greg was a huge supporter of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was the Treasurer for the Pack and the Troop. He supported his three sons; Jonathan, Stephen, and Thomas as they progressed through the Scouts and achieved their Eagle badges. He was, and is, a very proud dad of each of his boys for their achievement of their Eagle badge. Over the course of many years, he endured many camping trips, jamborees, and klondike events. Torrential rains, extreme heat, freezing cold, and snowstorms were a typical companion during these events. While in Scouting, he had the opportunity to join the "Order of the Arrow" with his sons. Greg was also involved in the travel swim club and with the Sea Rams and Duanesburg. Greg built some strong bonds with the families in these swim teams.

Greg lived his life for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Peg, his sons Jonathan, Stephen (Cassidy), and Thomas. Father Randy and brother Christopher. He also had a special place for Stephen and Cassidy's pup; Nali. Greg was part of the Greve family, by marriage, but in their hearts he was their brother. Greg is predeceased by his mother MaryJane Knack.

Greg made friends for life. He treated them as family. He loved getting together with them for impromptu gatherings. He found every opportunity to have friends get together for a meal, a drink, or just to hang out and socialize. From Homecomings, Easter Egg hunts, visiting Coaches for soccer, or just a themed dinner, he just liked to celebrate whenever he could and he had partners in crime to aid him in his endeavors.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 4 pm until 7:00 pm at Rose & Hughes Funeral Home; 200 Church Street, Amsterdam.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church; 50-52 Cornell St., Amsterdam, NY. with Father Brad Milunski as celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson NY following the mass.
