David Dybas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose & Hughes Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2026.
David J. Dybas, 80, of Church Street, Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully February 24, 2026 at Albany Medical Center. Born on May 11, 1945 he was the only child of the late Edmund and Laura (Pieklowski) Dybas.

A lifelong city resident, David attended city schools and was a proud graduate of Siena University. He worked for General Electric for 25 years, and later for The Center for Disability Services as an accounting and financial consultant. He also was an adjunct professor at SUNY FMCC and HVCC teaching accounting and municipal accounting.

David was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, The Polish Bowling League, PNA and the BPOE No. 101. An avid sports fan, he was a season ticket holder to the NY Giants, and enjoyed following the NY Mets, volleyball and bowling.

Committed to his community, he served as a Montgomery County Supervisor from 2000- 2009 and on the Amsterdam Common Council. He also was a financial consultant who did work for the Amsterdam Industrial Development Agency (AIDA). It was his hope that someday he could change the financial outlook of Amsterdam and not repeat the same mistakes of our ancestors. David's greatest joy was knowing he had students that went on to greater things.

David was also a professional accordion player for 25 years, who was a member of the Al Capp Combo Trio. He also enjoyed volunteering his time playing at rehabilitation and senior living facilities.

He is survived by his "best cousin in the world" Lynn; and several extended family members.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 10a.m. at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. officiating.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026 from 4p.m. until 6p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery.
