Joseph Luksis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose & Hughes Funeral Home on Feb. 19, 2026.
Mr. Joseph Jay Luksis, 67, of Scotia, NY, formerly a resident of John's Creek, Georgia, entered eternal peace on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at his home following a brief illness.

Joe was born in Amsterdam, NY on April 16, 1958, a son of the late Joseph A. and Jane H. (Dybas) Luksis. Joe went to the former St. Casimir's School and then became a graduate of the former Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam, class of 1976. He went on to play basketball at Siena College in Loudonville, NY and was in the graduating class of 1981.

Joe married Diane (Bartone) Luksis on May 15, 1983, in Amsterdam, NY. They had two children, Amanda and Brian and later moved to Orlando, FL before settling in Atlanta, GA.

Upon seeking a career in Finance, Joe worked for various major companies before retiring as a Senior Portfolio Manager at UBS in Atlanta, GA. Once retired, he moved back to Scotia, NY to care for his aging father.

Joe was vibrant and full of life. He was known as Joey or JJ to some, but Coach Joe and Dad to the ones he made the most impact on. Joe loved sports and shared his passion with his kids by coaching his daughter in soccer and coaching his son in both baseball and soccer. He was competitive in nature and had a thirst for knowledge and a love of reading and music. In his younger years his best days were spent by the ocean. Since moving back home his favorite days were spent with his family on the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Survivors include his two dear children, Amanda Jae McCallum and her husband Steven of Winder, GA, and Brian Joseph Luksis and his wife Liann Whalen of Atlanta, GA. Cherished granddaughter, Elizabeth Jae McCallum of Winder, GA. His brother, James A. Luksis of Wappingers Falls, NY and his significant other Jonnie. Nephews, Jason Luksis and Eric (Christine) Luksis. Great-nephew, Jordan James Luksis, Easton Luksis, and Hudson Luksis. Aunt, Mary Ann Dybas of Van Nuys, CA and other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at a later date and will be announced. Burial will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St. Amsterdam, NY. 12010. Please visit Joe's tribute at www.roseandhughesfh.com.

We met Joe and Dianne when we moved to John´s Creek in 1994. Joe was soccer coach for our son Kevin. Joe and Dianne were very welcoming and we became fast friends. Our son Kevin and their son Brian became lifelong friends( both serving as best man at the other´s wedding).
We moved to South Carolina in 2003. We cherish our friendship with the Luksis family.
