David Gulk, age 59 of Larchwood, IA died Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM Monday, October 13, 2025, at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA., with Fr. Sunny Dominic, as celebrant.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Sunday, October 12th, at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 PM.
David James Gulk was born October 3, 1966, in Sioux Falls, SD the son of Harry Gulk, Jr. (deceased) and Karen (Krier) Gulk Viereck. He grew up in Larchwood, IA and attended West Lyon High School, graduating in 1985.
He briefly worked at IBP in Minnesota until he followed his passion into the construction field in which he excelled at finishing work. In recent years, he loved to do crafts with pictures and wood and made several spiritual themed pieces that he loved to share with family and friends.
Dave’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, canning and was a master (hot) salsa chef.
Dave loved game shows. Being a trivia master he beat most of us to the answers.
He was famous for his croquet tournaments. He professed to be the winner, but his family is convinced he cheated. One of Dave’s greatest passions was playing pool (billiards) which he excelled at and had won numerous tournaments and taught his family the love of the game.
Dave is survived by wife, Michele married on February 15th, 2008, and beautiful daughter from a previous marriage, Taylor Gulk of Belleville IL.
Dave was part of a “yours, mine and ours” union and survived by his mother, Karen Viereck, sister Amy Snyders, half-brother Michael (Jill) Viereck, half-sister Rhonda (Larry) Johnson, stepsisters, Kim (Greg Wehrkamp) Sehr, Lisa (Tony) Snyders, Nancy Van Veldhuizen, in-laws Shari Viereck and Greg Koch.
Stepchildren Becky (Zach) Majeres, Brady (Stacy) Reinke, Devon (Jamie) Reinke.
Mother-in-Law Marilyn Grotewold, in-laws Kent Grotewold, Sean (Darcy) Grotewold, Aaron (Dena) Grotewold and Heather (Jaden) Lorenzen, 10 grandkids and many nieces and nephews and his best four-legged friend, Molly. Dave loved them all.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Harry Gulk Jr., stepfather Rolly Viereck, sister Lori Gulk, stepsister, Jan Koch, stepbrothers, Keith and Jason Viereck and father-in-law Gary Grotewold and his parrot Paco.
