Larchwood, Iowa 

 William Winter age 62, of Larchwood, IA died Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

 Visitation will be Wednesday, January 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

 Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Thursday, January 30th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood, IA, with Pastor Sue Sinclair and Terri Johnson officiating. 

 Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery of Rock Rapids, with Military Honors provided by Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960, VFW and Rex Strait Post No. 103, American Legion of Rock Rapids.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Winter family for later designation.

William Eugene Winter was born on February 3, 1962, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Bob and Gwen (Woods) Winter. As a child he lived in Culver City, CA, Sioux Falls, SD, Colton, SD, Conway, MO and back to Sioux Falls, SD where he attended Washington High School. After graduating he then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for two years from 1980 to 1982. He did his basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, his AIT training in Champaign, IL for Hydraulics/Pneumatics for Jets and Helicopter repair. He was stationed in Fort Hood, Killeen, TX and Fort Campbell, KY. 

 On June 14, 1981, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Hagedon at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA. The couple lived several places throughout their married life like Harker Heights, TX from 1981-1982, Hopkinsville, KY, Rock Rapids, IA from 1982-1986 and during this time Bill attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, IA where he received an Auto Mechanics Degree. They then moved to Sutherland, IA from 1986-1988, and Larchwood, IA from 1988 to the present. 

 Bill had several jobs throughout his life as well, such as B&B Automotive in Sutherland, IA, and an auto repair place in Larchwood, IA, Vern Eide in Sioux Falls, SD, Amtech Electrician and service repairman in Rock Rapids, IA, Johnson Appliance as an appliance repairman in Sioux Falls, SD, and he owned and operated Bill’s Appliance Repair.

 Bill was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood, IA, where he served as a youth leader and board member. He also helped with Cub Scouts. His hobbies and interests included working on his cars, helping others with car problems, playing video games, listening to music, and attending music concerts. He liked to watch YouTube shows and play dice with his friends and family. Special memories included his boy’s births, confirmations, and graduations. Bill and Bonnie took a trip to California to visit his childhood home, to share memories of growing up there and special places. They also took a yearly family trip to Missouri to visit his grandpa and grandma. Bill entered heaven on his first son, Shane’s birthday who died in infancy. What a joy that must have been for them both. 

 Bill is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Bonnie Winter of Larchwood, IA; two sons, Jeremy Winter of Larchwood, IA, and Joshua Winter of New Castle, NE; his mother, Gwen Winter of Sioux Falls, SD; grand pups, Milly and Sammie; Bill, Sandra, Robbie, and Laurie Parsons of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law, Julie Johnson of Sibley, IA; many niece, nephews, and other extended family.

 He was preceded in death by his infant son, Shane Winter; father, Bob Winter; brother, Kevin Winter; sister, Cindy Merritt; maternal grandparents, Hubert and Geri Wood; brother-in-law, Dick Johnson; and father and mother-in-law, Alfred and Louise Hagedon.
