Obituary published on Legacy.com by Basic South Texas Cremations - La Grange on Dec. 19, 2024.
David Andrew Hajovsky, age 80, of La Grange, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2024, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Born on January 17, 1944, in La Grange to Steve Andrew Hajovsky and Avie Louise (Dunn) Hajovsky Kveton, David was a proud son of his hometown. His early years were marked by a deep passion for football. In 1961, he became a local legend by setting the 2A Rushing Yards Record with an astounding 1,370 yards-a feat that remains a cherished part of his legacy. He continued to shine on the field at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, earning All-American honors in 1962.
On August 8, 1964, David married his high school sweetheart, Judy M. Mitschke, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Holman, Texas. Together they built a life filled with love and shared dreams. One of their greatest joys was caring for the land David's father purchased in the late 1930s. Known as "the Bottom," this land became a place of peace and refuge for David and his family. They raised cattle there and lovingly named each one-a tradition that brought joy to their grandchildren as they fished, bird-watched, and explored the farm with "Mimi" and "Bobo."
In 1987, after losing their home to a fire, David turned tragedy into triumph by taking a leap of faith founding the Holman Valley Steakhouse. He and Judy owned and operated the beloved restaurant until 2012. It was not only a successful business but also a source of great pride for David.
David will be remembered for his loving nature, generous heart, and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Hajovsky; daughters Tammy Hajovsky of Santa Fe, NM, and Mandy Wright (Joe) of New Braunfels, TX; six grandchildren; Grant Gonzalez of Seguin, TX, Joseph Woffinden, (Keanna) of Denver, CO, Elias Woffinden of Santa Fe, NM, Evan Baklas of New Braunfels, TX, Eden Baklas of New Braunfels, TX, Ella Woffinden, of Santa Fe, NM, two step granddaughters, Harley Wright Buck (Zachary), of McQueeney, TX, Storey Wright-Figueroa (Jose), of Seguin, TX two step- great grandchildren, Oaklynn Buck and Parker Buck and countless friends whose lives he touched.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Steve Andrew Hajovsky and Avie Louise (Dunn) Hajovsky Kveton, and younger sister, Jo Helen Hajovsky.
May his memory serve as a beacon of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
