David "Dave" Hamilton, a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, cherished brother, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at the age of 77, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born August 11, 1948, in Jamestown, New York, Dave was the son of Herbert and Virginia Hamilton. He spent his early years in Frewsburg and attended Frewsburg High School before graduating from Havelock High School in North Carolina.
With a deep sense of duty and patriotism, Dave joined the United States Marine Corps in 1965, serving honorably in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. For his valor and commitment, he was awarded the Service Medal, the Campaign Medal, and the prestigious Cross of Gallantry.
Following his time in active duty, Dave continued his military service in the United States Army Reserves. From 1977 to 1995, he served as a respected Drill Instructor in the 98th Division, earning the Meritorious Service Medal before retiring with a distinguished 24 years of military service.
Dave retired from JNK Corporation in 2007, closing a successful civilian career and beginning a well-earned retirement that he filled with family, friends, and his greatest passion-golf. A devoted and competitive golfer, Dave found joy and deep friendships at South Hills Country Club, where he was a beloved member of the community. He especially looked forward to his annual golf tournament with his son and close friends, a tradition that brought him endless joy.
Dave enjoyed his retirement in sunny Florida; it was full of golf, friends and treasured memories.
He was a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a proud member of the American Legion Post 275, Dunedin, FL. Dave also gave back to his fellow veterans through his work with the Chautauqua County Agent Orange Task Force under Joseph Gerace, where he helped advocate for those exposed during their service.
Dave was married to the love of his life, Mary Jo, for 40 years. Their marriage was a true partnership marked by mutual respect, deep affection, and unwavering support. Known for his easygoing nature, quiet strength, and kindness, Dave was deeply involved in his children's lives. He coached youth sports, attended every game from Little League to college, and was always present, cheering, encouraging, and guiding.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Jo; his daughter, Christine Hamilton of Tampa, Florida; his son John Hamilton and daughter-in-law Tina of Southport, North Carolina; and his cherished grandchildren Tannon and Landon, who brought him immense pride and joy; another grandchild, Kyle Peterson, whom he loved. In addition, his brothers in law Jim Bonfiglio (Marsha) of Lakewood, NY, Russell Bonfigilo (Robin) of Jamestown, NY; his Godchild, Huxley Hale of Falconer, NY; best friend James Hale of Frewsburg, NY and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his brothers Alan Hamilton and George Hamilton, his sisters Judy Moyer, Alfreda Hamilton, as well as his lifelong friend Gordy Skinner.
Dave Hamilton will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet humor, deep commitment to service, and the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and loyalty that will live on in his family and the many lives he touched.
A celebration of life, officiated by Dave's long time friend Terry Smith, will be held at 3 pm Saturday November 22, 2025, in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received from 1 to 3 pm.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
