David Harris, 83 of Clinton, Maryland. Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. Mathew 5:4 David Harris, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025 surrounded by loved ones at home. Born on January 3, 1942 in Laurens, South Carolina to the late Johnny and Fannie Mae Harris. David lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family and driving. He had a very humble upbringing, growing up with his siblings Betty Boggs (deceased) and Arthur Lee Harris (deceased) in a small town. After graduating from Sanders High School, he left South Carolina for the big city, settling in with his aunt in a small apartment in Washington, DC. For many years, David made a living-and found great joy-in being behind the wheel as a professional truck driver. Whether it was hauling loads of office supplies and equipment or taking in the beauty of the DMV through the windshield of his box truck, David was truly at home on the road. He took pride in every mile and treated each route with care and dedication, knowing that the job wasn't just about the cargo, but about keeping things moving for the people who depended on it. He loved stopping to grab a hotdog and Big Gulp from the 7-11 store or Costco. He enjoyed chatting it up with greeters at each stop on his route. He loved the hustle and demand of making his routes, he took pride in his customer service and did it for more than four decades. He retired and fully embraced the joy of being a grandparent. Outside of trucking, David was known for relaxing in front of the TV watching old cowboy movies, mowing the lawn, or tinkering around the house. He had a love for all kinds of music-especially during an interesting phase when he listened to and quoted rhymes from the late rapper Tupac, enjoyed Christian rock, and even hummed tunes by English soprano singer Sarah Brightman. Although quiet and reserved, he always offered great worldly advice. To family and friends, he was a steady presence-always willing to lend a hand or share a story. To the kids (us), he was simply "Pops"-a gentle giant with an impeccable, hearty laugh and a warm smile. David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Melvina J. Harris; his children, Kimberly Harris, Kendra Jordan (Jay), Alphonzo Harris (Melody), Anthony Harris (Rose), and Bobby Williams (Gayle); his grandchildren, Hayden Miller, Reyna Jordan, Jayson Jordan, Sharita Harris-Harding, Alphonzo L. Harris, DeAndre Harris (deceased), and Bryson Williams; his great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Though the road ahead will be harder without him, the example he set-as a provider, a humble man, a parent, and a grandparent-will continue to guide us. Rest easy, Pops! May the roads be smooth and the skies clear as you get to enjoy driving again in heaven.
