David Roy Hislop, 76, of Keeseville, previously of Peru, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his home, under the care of Hospice of the North Country, with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Utica, NY, on September 28, 1946, the son of Milton and Eunice Hislop.
David served in the Marine Corps from 1963-1969, serving two tours in the Vietnam War before he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Upon returning home, he worked various jobs before retiring in 2008 as Peru Highway Superintendent. He was a member of VFW Post 1619 and the Legion in Saranac, NY. Throughout his retirement he always lived life to the fullest, doing many things he enjoyed.
He was always happiest on a boat and enjoyed camping at Cranberry Lake; it became a yearly tradition with family and close friends. He loved being outside, visiting with those who meant the most to him. Although he was a man of few words, he was well-known for his jokes and always had a memorable story to tell.
Left to cherish David's memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Candace (Liberty) Hislop; children, Jody (Walt) Fournier Jr., Brian (Jaime) Hislop; grandchildren, Kaylee (Adam) Besaw, Nicholas Davis (Erykah Siegrist), Tyler Perry, Alexis Hislop, Karlee Hislop; great-grandchild Garhett Besaw; mother-in-law, Patricia Stone; sister, Betsy Parke; several brother and sister-in-law's, Allyson (Russell) Nelson, Cindy (Rick) McKee, Terry (Robin) Liberty, Star (Gordon) Benjamin, Alan (Nancy) Liberty; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; father-in-law, Fred Liberty; brother-in-law, Thomas Yates; and nephew, Corey Liberty.
There will be a private burial with military honors for close family and friends held at St. Augustine's Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's memory to the Hospice of the North Country for their caring support provided.
