David Edward Holmes (Homey)(Dad) was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 30, 1951, to Charles and Dorthy Holmes. Dave graduated in 1969 from Linden McKinley High School, where he lettered in Baseball and Golf.
Dave relocated with his wife and daughter to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1979. He worked at Cape Canaveral Airforce Station as a Pipefitter. In his early 20s, Dave was scouted and tried out for the Pittsburg Pirates as a short stop. He was known in Ohio and Florida for having a great line drive, and being an amazing short stop and pitcher. When dad played golf, he was mesmerizing to watch and we always used his ball as "best ball" when we played a Scrambles.
Dad was my Little League softball team's coach. He was our boating, tubing, and water-skiing father. He taught me how to surf, play softball, drive a boat, fish, and golf. In his spare time, he loved offshore fishing, and called it a day after catching Tuna, Red Snapper, and Dolphin. Dad loved life. He loved the outdoors, the sun, sports, dancing, and music. He loved friends and family unconditionally.
He taught his brothers-in-law to play ball, to hunt and fish, and enjoyed spending time with them. Anybody who knew Homey, knew they were going to laugh, win a ball game, lose at golf against him, or go home with a cooler full of fish and a great memory of the Homey laugh.
Dad, I pray you are playing ball on the best ball diamond you have ever seen. I pray you are at your healthiest and happiest. You will always be loved and remembered. "Now get off the bench and up to bat."
Dave was preceded in death by his parents. He was survived by his wife, Monique, his daughter, Courtney, his siblings, Jerri Baker, Tom (Shelly) Holmes, Charlie Holmes, Connie (Jim) Wolfe, JB (Wendy) Holmes, and by many nieces and nephews.
