Former City of Arnold Councilman David "Dave" Horvat, 80, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Arnold, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 30, 1945, in Braddock, he spent most of his life in the greater Pittsburgh area before retiring to Las Vegas in 2019. He was the son of the late George and Florence (Granny) Horvat. Dave served in many roles throughout his life retail executive, volunteer fireman (pumper truck driver), city councilman, and friend to many but anyone who knew Dave understood what his number one passion was: his boys. He proudly attended every event they participated in while they were growing up, no matter how challenging it was to fit around life's demands. And he didn't just watch; he could regularly be seen playing touch football in the street, basketball in the driveway, or wiffle ball and kickball in the yard with them. He was an all-in dad, and they loved him dearly for it. After a long week of work or home projects, Saturday nights were always reserved for date night a cherished tradition Dave and Beverly shared for decades without fail. Many of those dates included couples bowling with his lifelong friends Tony and Joyce Palmiero. Every morning before leaving for work, he would enjoy a glass of orange juice and kiss his wife goodbye for the day. His love for family transcended into the great joy of his later years his grandchildren. He developed unique and special relationships with each of them, and they will deeply miss their Papa, Granddaddy, or Grandpa. After serving in the U.S. Army, Dave began a long and successful career in retail management. He started with the W.T. Grant Company as a store manager and ultimately served over 40 years as executive vice president of Faber, Inc. He brought the same tireless dedication to his work that he applied to every aspect of his life no task was ever beneath him, and no challenge too great. If something needed to be done, Dave rolled up his sleeves and made it happen. He played by his own rules, often citing his motto: "Ain't nothin' to it but to do it." Dave enjoyed nearly every sport, but football was his favorite. He loved bowling, enjoyed golfing with friends, and cherished watching football on TV with his sons. A lifelong Steelers fan, he had the great experience of attending Super Bowl XIV in person. One of his favorite pastimes was taking his dog Duke for walks and chatting with the neighbors. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Beverly (Helms) Horvat; his children, David (Danielle) Horvat of Lower Burrell, Heath Horvat of Las Vegas, NV, and Matthew (Usha) Horvat of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, Patience (Chris) Wilson of Cleveland, OH, Abigail (George) Kanavos of Chicago, Sydney Horvat of Lower Burrell, and Jasmine, Mikayla, and his only grandson, David, of Phoenix, AZ; and a sister, Elaine (Kent) Richardson of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Horvat; and sister, Beverly Nesbitt. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 15, 2025, at PALM NORTHWEST MORTUARY & CEMETERY, 6701 North Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131, (702)464-8460. A service will be held at 4 p.m. and a reception will be held after. A Celebration of Life will be held in Pittsburgh in the near future for all of his loving friends and family back in western Pennsylvania. For more information, please visit:
