Age 89, of Shaler Township, he was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine E. (Stupar) Hursen, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Loving father of Richard Hursen of Shaler Township; Joseph Hursen (Antonette) of North Strabane; and Stephen Hursen of Penn Hills. Son of the late Frank and Jane (Toner) Hursen; brother of the late Thomas, James, and Francis Hursen. Cherished grandfather of Danielle Holland (Dan Holland) and Erika Lawrence (Adam Lawrence); and adored great-grandfather to Skylar, Mason, and Cole.
A proud graduate of North Catholic High School, where he excelled as a basketball player, David Hursen served his country with honor as a U.S. Army veteran. He was drafted into the Army and later recalled to service during the Cuban Missile Crisis, answering the call without hesitation. A dedicated and skilled tradesman, he was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local #5 for an extraordinary 70 years. His commitment to his craft was matched by his deep faith—he was an active and devoted member of Saint Raphael Catholic Church in Morningside for more than 60 years. David was the kind of man who was always there for others—steadfast, generous, and selfless. Whether it was his family or someone in need, he offered help without reservation. His unwavering love for his family, his strength of character, and his quiet acts of kindness will always be remembered.
