It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of David “Dave” Wayne Ihrie, age 68, on September 6, 2025. Dave was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a pioneering mind in the world of innovation and a mentor to many. He was known for treating everyone with kindness, for unwavering dedication to those he loved, and for always having words of wisdom to share (often in the form of jokes).

Dave passed peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. His last month after his diagnosis was spent just as he lived the rest of his life: enveloped in love, laughter, and the strength of those he held closest. The most important thing to Dave was the relationships he built, and he prioritized trying to honor as many of those relationships as he could. Dave lives on in so many of the lives he touched, and he leaves behind a legacy of joy, creativity, and compassion that will live on far beyond his years.

Dave was proud of what he achieved in all aspects of life, and in his career he was an accomplished leader in technology. Reflecting on his career he said that he never had to work a day in his life, and just kept getting to do cool stuff as a techie. Dave was intelligent and loved to share his knowledge with others. With this in mind, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the David W. Ihrie Smart Community STEM Scholarship Fund. Dave was a staunch and unwavering advocate for the Smart Community STEM program. To continue his legacy and vision, this fund will be used to ensure that the Smart Community STEM program continues and supports all students desiring to learn about emerging technologies and associated real-world opportunities.
