With much sadness and great love, we announce that David "Dave" Iocco passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023. Dave was born on November 17, 1941 to Angie and Joseph Iocco in
Lyons, NY.
He grew up and attended High School in
Clyde, NY where he enjoyed basketball and music.
In 1964, Dave graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) located in
Troy, NY. He received his New York State Engineering License in 1971 and later in his career received his Professional Engineering certification.
Dave's job brought him to
Corning, NY where he enjoyed a 40-year engineering career with Ingersoll-Rand/Dresser-Rand. He started as a Product Engineer and finished as the Vice President of Gas Engine Marketing and Engineering. After a year of retirement, Dave started his own Engineering Consultant Company in which he worked on many projects supporting the people and businesses of the greater Corning and Elmira area.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Iocco; his youngest daughter, Jamie Iocco; only son Edward and wife Kim Iocco; his beloved and only grandson, Matthew Iocco; his sister-in-law, Judi Iocco; nieces, Jo Anne Howe, Nancy Russell and Linda Rowe; and his nephew, Steven Marchitell. He was predeceased by his parents; older brother, John Iocco; younger sister, Maryanne (Iocco) Marchitell; and most sadly his two middle daughters, Julie Ann Iocco and Jean Marie Iocco.
Dave was a devoted husband and family man who was always outgoing and willing to lend a hand. As a father, Dave was always involved in his children's lives, especially around sports. He spent many hours involved as a Small Fry football coach, ice hockey coach, and softball coach. He is also credited with countless hours and miles spent chauffeuring to and from gymnastics meets across the state.
Dave devoted many hours of his life to volunteering for the Corning community. He was highly involved in the local YMCA, the
Habitat for Humanity, and he spent many years serving on the Corning Hospital Board of Directors. In 1995 he received the hospital's annual "Blue Ribbon Award" for distinguished service.
Dave was always a strong and determined man. He survived a battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma back in 1990 and carried his family through a most tragic time in life for any parent, the loss of not one but two daughters in one year: Julie in June 2000 and Jean in June 2001. Through it all, he always found a way to persevere and carry life with him.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 18th from 3-5 PM at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First Street in
