David Jaspan passed away at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia on August 13th. He was 67. David was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. He graduated from American University, and he earned a Master's degree from San Diego State University. David had a long and very successful career in the Financial Services industry working for a number of large organizations including John Hancock, Allstate, and the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF). In addition to his many longtime friends, David leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Carol Mullins, and his son, Tyler E. Jaspan. He is also survived by his sister Carol Bernhard. David was an avid Philadelphia and Kansas City sports fan and enjoyed attending sporting events with Tyler. David was also a dog lover, and he has asked that in lieu of flowers, you consider donating to Oldies but Goodies Cocker Spaniel Rescue (4400 Walsh St., Chevy Chase MD 20824). This organization brought Arnie and Teddy into his life and helped make his final years more peaceful. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at Roosevelt Memorial Park located at 2701 Old Lincoln Hwy., Trevose, PA.

To Carol and Tyler,
I can not help but smile whenever I think of David. He made me laugh all the time. So many memories with David in San Diego back in the early 80’s. Kit and Diane and others just loved David for his sense of humor and warm heart.
I volunteer at several rescues transporting cats and dogs up the east coast. I always think of David whenever I see cocker spaniels. Love you David.

My name is Sylvia Catin Friedman and am absolutely devastated to hear of David’s passing in August. David and I met thru Kit and Diane back in San Diego in the early 80’s. I have so many funny memories with David which I cherish dearly. Our times were always filled with laughter and soul searching talks. From his time with the Secret Service to his pre Seals training , David had become such a good friend. I remember when he met you Carol and how we were all so happy for him. The last time we met was at breakfast in Annapolis with Tyler. My husband taught at the USNA and we reconnected to answer questions for Tyler. My heart truly aches and I will pray for his everlasting peace. Is Tyler still in the Navy? We live now in West Point VA outside of Williamsburg. We are retired and spend lots of time volunteering at animal shelter and transporting cats and dogs to rescues up the east coast. Carol, you were so lucky to spend all those years with such an incredible man and good friend. God bless Sylvia Catin Friedman

I was sorry to learn of David’s passing. I met him in Washington in the summer of ‘71. We had a brief, long distance relationship with many teachable moments. I didn’t know another 19-year old with such a clear blueprint for his life. I hope he lived out his goals and dreams. I send my sincere condolences to his friends and family. May he Rest In Peace.

I'm so sorry that I just found out about David's passing. We worked very closely for several years at IOF and a couple of companys after. He was and will always be one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to know. It was an honor to know David.

I just learned of David’s passing. We were close friends during our youth and for years later. Pine Forest Camp was how me met. We played alot of basketball together, went to sporting and music venues and just hung out. What a wonderful person and friend and a man with great insights and humor. I am at a loss to understand that he is gone. My wife Sue and I moved back from West Palm Beach to the Phildelphia area (Wayne) in 2005 and I thought that sooner or later David and I would be hanging out together, laughing and enjoying our memories.

My deepest sympathies go out to David’s wife Carol, his son Tyler and his sister Carol.

So sad to wake up this morning and learn of Dave’s passing. Dave was a loyal friend and a mellow soul that I knew from our years together in Cheltenham High and well beyond. “Chauncey” (his nickname then) would always produce some kind of antic or remark to make us laugh and get through the school day. I recall visiting Dave at his home in Cheltenham on more than one occasion when his sister had to bail him out of trouble.

Dave and I kept in touch through college and for more than a decade afterwards. While most of us were terrified by our first days in college, Dave is the only person I know who was laid-back enough to sleep in and miss his very first class at American Univ. We visited each other several times in college and beyond. I was always impressed by Dave’s dedication to becoming a federal agent and his penchant for used sports cars, even if they seemed to break down at inopportune times and places.

After attending your beautiful wedding in San Diego, I lost track of Dave and Carol, but was delighted to learn about Tyler. I’m sure you both brought him comfort while he persevered through a decade of Parkinson’s. I was looking forward to reconnecting with Dave at our (postponed) reunion. Dave brought smiles to many faces and he’ll be missed. May he rest in peace and you find some comfort in that.

I want to express my condolences to Carol and Tyler and to Dave's sister Carol.

Dave and I became friends in high school. We were part of a group of friends who were regular guys, which was not an easy thing in the late 60s. We loved sports and Philly sports teams, but we never great at those sports. We had plenty of crushes but seldom had the courage to dial the phone. We did well in school and generally stayed out of trouble. We left to go to college in 1970, and never really looked back. We reconnected almost 40 years later. He had a long career and had raised a son. I had my own career and four children and a growing list of grandchildren. We reminisced about our high school days, and attended Naval Academy and Washington sporting events. We talked a lot about faith and family. Dave had a way of always conveying a sincere interest in how I was doing and my family. Even in our final call last week, he was still running down the list of kids' and grandkids' names and asking how they were. I will miss our visits.
