David Marshall Jones, 71, of Davidson County, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Grace Episcopal Church, with Rev. Edward Kelaher officiating, with a reception to follow.
He was born on April 15, 1954, to the late Myron Jones and Anne Marshall Jones Sullivan.
David was an exceptional servant of God whose life reflected his deep love for his church and community. He poured his heart into countless areas of ministry, from the construction and management of the church building to computers, audio-visual work, and most especially the food kitchen, where he found great joy in helping to feed the homeless. David was never one to seek recognition; instead, he humbly embraced the thankless and unseen tasks with a cheerful spirit, embodying what it meant to serve with a Christ-like heart. He was a familiar face to many, and his presence and kindness made him beloved by all who knew him.
Beyond his church service, David had many passions that brought him joy. A true history enthusiast, he loved participating in Civil War reenactments and built an impressive collection of Civil War books. He dedicated many years of his career to the Railroad, and his love for trains extended into his personal life through his hobby of model railroading. He also enjoyed baseball and was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan. Another of his great interests was HAM radio, which allowed him to connect with people from all over the world. He delighted in taking radios apart, repairing them, and keeping his equipment in top shape. Above all else, David was a devoted family man—cherishing his role as a loving husband to his wife of 25 years, Marlene, a supportive dad and stepdad, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather whose family brought him immense pride and joy.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Sharon Sweeney.
Left to carry on his great legacy are his wife, Marlene Jones, of the home; son, Andrew Jones, of Tionesta, PA; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bauer (Matthew), of Fryburg, PA; stepsons, Ryan Walsh (April), of Hillsborough, NC, Chad Walsh (Angela), of Wilkesbarre, PA, and Erik Walsh, of Lexington, NC; sisters, Valarie Murline (David), of San Diego, CA, and Leslie Hopper (Gary), of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Myron and Isadora Bauer, of Fryburg, PA, Celeste Walsh-Hopkins (Nathaniel), of Burlington, NC, Evan and Alaina Walsh, of Hillsborough, NC, and Marshall and Adam Jones, of Tionesta, PA; great grandchildren, Cassandra and Dahlia Hopkins; good friend, John Taylor; and many more extended friends and family.
