David Russell Jones, 76, of Decatur, IL., passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. David was born on Christmas Day, 1948 in Terre Haute, IN., to the late Glenn Russell Jones and Mary Alice Rockwood Jones.
David lived a life of steadfast dedication to his family, country, and craft. David was a proud graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, Class of 1966. Following his education, he answered the call to serve his nation in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Over four years of honorable service, David proudly served at the Fentress Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, where he excelled in crash and rescue operations and, later aboard the USS America (CV-66) as an Air Boatswain's Mate, embodying the Navy's core values of courage and commitment. On October 26, 1969, David found his lifelong partner in Patricia "Patty" Karm, and together they built a beautiful family. David and Patty raised two devoted children, son David Christopher Jones and Jennifer Ann Mudd.
A skilled and reliable utility lineman, David dedicated 37 years to his profession, working across Terre Haute, Indiana, Newark, Delaware, Kewanee, Illinois; and Decatur, Illinois. His strong work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to tackle any challenge under pressure earned him the respect of colleagues and the safety of countless communities he served. He has spent the past five years working for Decatur Industrial Electric.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Russell Jones and Mary Alice (Rockwood) Jones, brother, Donald Glenn Jones, cousins, Lloyd Hendrix, Gary Hendrix, LeeRoy Hendrix and Barbara Kulich.
