David King Obituary

David Harvey King, 60, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away suddenly due to health complications on January 1st, 2026.
David was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 10th, 1965, to Barbara and Harvey King. He dedicated 34 years of his life to working at Union Pacific Railroad, where his job involved something to do with flying on private jets and sending photos of it to his children, and he maintained close relationships with many customers and coworkers he considered friends.
He had a passion for college sports, especially his beloved Iowa State Cyclones, which he traveled the world to see in places like Ireland, Hawaii, and Las Vegas. Though he traveled far, David was such a talkative and personable man there was no corner of the globe where he could not either find old friends from home, or make new ones out of complete strangers. It annoyed his family to no end.
David was service oriented and was an active member of The Cosmopolitan service club. He worked many events to support juvenile diabetes.
He taught his sons the value of being a gentle man, and what it means to be kind in the face of the unknown. He will be missed.
David is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Gjoa; and his three sons, Holden (Abby), Ethan, and Nolan; his mother Barbara; two sisters, Debbie Masker (John) and Becky Rackley (JB); and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey; and his brother, Doug.
Memorial Service Saturday, January 10, 2026, 10:00am at Salem United Methodist Church with interment of the urn in Lewis Township Cemetery. Memorial Visitation with the family Friday, January 9, 2026, 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for later direction.

Dave King was wonderful person in so many ways. I worked with him and was a customer of the Union Pacific. Dave was my account manager. He was the ultimate professional with strong people skills and a wealth of experience. He was always looking out for our business and we grew our business together. The best part was that Dave and I became good friends. Being a K State grad Dave and I talked about his beloved Clones a lot. We attended some games together. I think I owed him a bottle of Templeton Rye from a game bet. Dave was a strong and proud family man. We talked about our sons a lot. We kept in touch after his well deserved retirement from the UP. Dave will be deeply missed in so many ways and always remembered. My deepest condolences for the King family, Ryan Warner
