David L. Knight, Sr.
January 16, 1945 – September 8, 2025

David L. Knight, Sr., 80, of Herkimer, NY, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025.

Born in Clinton, Iowa, on January 16, 1945, he was the son of Harold and Mary (Hamer) Knight. David proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam era. On April 16, 1966, he married the love of his life, Deborah (Delano) Knight, with whom he shared many years of life before her passing.

David lived his life as an example of love, faith, and service. He was an active member of Harvest Hills Baptist Church of Herkimer, Abundant Harvest of Herkimer, and Mohawk Reformed Church of Mohawk. He gave countless hours to Scouting as a Cubmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster in both Maine and New York (Pack 98, Troop 214, and Pack 19). He also served as Director of Mid Coast SHARE/Serve in Maine and spent many years as the longtime Director of the Friendship/Cushing Food Pantry.

David had a gift for working with his hands and found joy in woodworking, gardening, and building toys for his grandchildren and other children in the family. He was a faithful volunteer with Meals on Wheels for over ten years, always serving others with kindness and humility.

He is survived by his sons, Keith (Brandy) Knight and David Knight, Jr.; grandchildren, Morgan and Lorenzo Knight; as well as many extended family members in Maine, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

A celebration of David's life will be held with a potluck gathering on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Mohawk Reformed Church. Interment will take place in Friendship, Maine, next summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friendship/Cushing Food Pantry, P.O. Box 237, Friendship, ME 04547.
