David J. Korah, 88, of Westfield, WI, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at home in his favorite chair.
He was born on November 22, 1936, in Rockford, IL, to Oscar and Helen Korah. Dave was a scrappy boy, always into some kind of mischief throughout his childhood.
He served in the U.S. Army for four years, part of that time stationed in Germany. After returning home, Dave became a member of Laborers’ Local 32 for more than 40 years, working primarily for Gus G. Larson & Odling Construction. Though he was a laborer by trade, his skills included cement finishing, bricklaying, and carpentry. A drive through Rockford with Dave often turned into a tour of houses and buildings he had helped construct.
Dave loved to share tall tales of his many misadventures in life, which often involved a fight or two. He also loved everything the outdoors had to offer, a joy he instilled in his family. Together they hiked, skied, and canoed at parks across the Illinois and Wisconsin region.
After retiring to Westfield, WI, Dave focused on his passion for art. He carved countless duck decoys, fish, and other wildlife; painted beautiful songbirds; and even crafted small pieces of furniture. His legacy lives on in those works. Dave also enjoyed fishing, making his own lures, hunting, and loading his own shells. He was a member of the Westfield Rod & Gun Club Trapshooting League, where he held an impressive average of 23.
Of course, Dave loved all of his grandchildren, but his biggest smiles came from his great-grandchildren. He believed they were destined to do great things.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Debbie Grinnell; his son, John Korah (Merrie); grandchildren Kate (Ben), David (Katie), Sam (Jess), Skip (Savanna), Cam (Seth), and Tevra (Dylan); great-grandchildren Merrin, Felix, and Juniper; and his niece, Carole, and nephew, Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Oscar; his brother, Jack; his sister, Betty; and his son-in-law, Mike.
A private family service will be held.
The family would like to extend special thanks to St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion.
