Winchendon, MA, David A. LaDeau, 74, died Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Quabbin Valley Nursing Home, in Athol, MA, after an illness. He was born in Winchendon on September 1, 1949, the son of the late Harold and Virginia (Mann) LaDeau. He graduated from Murdock High School, Class of 1967. David worked in his earlier years at Amenta Bros. Store in Waterville, MA; Guaranty Bank and Trust in Winchendon, MA, and Seaman Paper Co. in Otter River. He graduated from Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner, MA with an associate degree. He earned a Bachelor degree in Music Education from Keene State College, NH . David was a longtime Music Teacher in various schools throughout Massachusetts. He taught music, choral, and band at; Murdock High and Middle Schools, Templeton Schools, Acushnet, Sacred Heart and Holy Rosary Schools. In his retirement years, David was a longtime substitute teacher, teaching K-12 for the towns of Winchendon, Gardner, and Ashburnham.
David can be remembered as Chairman for both the 225th and 250th-anniversary committees for the town of Winchendon. He was honored with the Donald Hunt Community Service Award for the 225th Anniversary. He was past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion, Winchendon, MA. He held a one-year position as Sergeant of Arms (Sons of the American Legion), for the State of Massachusetts. David taught private piano lessons for many years and was the organist and pianist, for the United Parish Church, in Winchendon, MA, and the United Methodist Church in Peterborough, NH.
David leaves his longtime friend, Pauline Coderre and four siblings; Phyllis King of Orange Park, FL; Stephen LaDeau and his wife Kelley of Stafford, VA; Ronald LaDeau and his wife Elaine of Gardner, MA; Karen Sawyer of Sebastian, FL; and a half-sister, Cynthia Webber and her husband Terry of Ridge, NH; along with several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Stone Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA 01475
There will be a calling hour from 10:00 a.m. till the time of the funeral. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.
