David Laverne Lankheet was surrounded by love when he passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20th, 2024.
Dave was born on May 11th, 1952, to Lucille and Harold Lankheet. He is preceded in death by his sister Karen Bouwman, sister Gayla VanderMolen and father Harold. He is survived by his mother Lucille, son Paul (Sheri) Lankheet, grandsons Jackson and James, sister Ellyn (Mike) Olney, brother Steve Lankheet, brother Kevin (Deanne) Lankheet and brother-in-law Andy VanderMolen.
In his early years, Dave dutifully assisted his mother from 9 am until noon with chores around the house. This was a task he initially disliked but eventually he came to appreciate the life lesson. His afternoons were filled with baseball games and hikes with friends. As a young adult, Dave had many adventures. One adventure he remembered fondly was a road trip that included an extended stay in Yellowstone National Park so he could earn enough money to fix his van. After eight months on the road, Dave's love for family brought him back to Michigan.
Dave was a pioneer in renewable energy and founded a solar installation company in the early '80s. His passion for renewable energy remained with him until his final days and continues to live on in his son Paul. Dave was also passionate about his grandsons. Grandpa Dave was an excellent board game player, grocery hider, story reader, and singer of "Sweet Baby James".
Dave will be remembered for his intelligent conversations, avid interest in reading (especially science fiction) and his compassionate nature. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family will have a celebration of Dave's life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. The staff at the Poppen Residence provided exceptional care and comfort to Dave and his family during his final days.
Dad, you will be missed! We Love You.
