In the book of life, we turn a page as we bid farewell to our beloved father, David Lawrence. Born to Thomas and Hilda Lawrence on August 2nd, 1934 in Corning, NY, Dave was a man of remarkable compassion, a trait he carried with him throughout his 90 years. He was a woven tapestry of loyalty, thoughtfulness, and humor, a testament to the adage that a life well-lived is one that touches many. Dave lived a full, rich life, brimming with love, laughter, and adventure, a life that spanned from the east to the west coast, a life that celebrated the values of family, faith, and friendship. Eventually Dave's family moved to South Gate, CA and he lived in CA for many years before moving up North to
Enumclaw, WA.
Dave was a man who believed in the power of hard work and dedication. Before building a successful career as an Engineer Management Inspector with the US Government, Dave served in the US Navy for 7 years. His time serving his country required precision, commitment, and resilience. He retired from Fort Lewis, in Tacoma, WA after working for 20 years. A man of many talents, David also harbored a love for music, boating, spending time by the water, golfing, camping, and even took flying lessons. His true passion, however, lay within the realms of his family and faith. His devotion to his wife Marlene of 63 years, his four children, Scott and his wife Ronda and their two children Adam and Fiona, Kristen and her two children, Mackenzie and Ryan, Alison and her husband Kurt, and Marilyn and her husband Jerry and their three children, Andrew, Heather and Matthew, as well as two great granddaughters was the cornerstone of his happiness. He was a beacon of love, always ready to lend a helping hand - his dry sense of humor never failing to bring a smile on our faces. We can easily picture Dave with a cup of coffee in his hand and a smile on his face.
Dave was a steadfast believer in the teachings of the Catholic Church, a faith he was born and raised in. He had been an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Enumclaw, and later in the Knights of Columbus. In the words of St. Paul to the Corinthians, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." (1 Corinthians 13:4-5). This verse resonates deeply with how Dave lived his life - a living testament of love, patience, and kindness.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Marlene, children Scott, Kristen, Alison, Marilyn, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, brother John Richard "Dick" and wife Shirley, and his sister-in-law Edith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Hilda, and his oldest brother, Thomas, and sister-in-law Dolores. As we remember Dave, we invite you to share your fondest memories of him and upload photos to his memorial page. Let us celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will live on in our hearts. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
