David Mittchell Lehman, Sr, 80, of Jennings, FL, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. Born on June 7, 1945, in Valdosta, GA, to Cranford and Vivian Lehman, David lived a life of quiet strength, faith, and deep love for his family and country.
At 20 years of age, David answered the call of duty and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Stationed aboard the USS Tulare, he sailed into harm's way with courage in his heart and a steadfast sense of responsibility to his fellow sailors and his country. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal - tangible honors that reflected a chapter of sacrifice, perseverance, and honor that shaped the man he became. David carried that pride with him throughout his life, never forgetting his time at sea or the brothers he served alongside.
When he returned home, David continued to work hard and learn new skills, holding several jobs before building a meaningful career through his dedication and perseverance. He eventually retired from PCA in Clyattville, GA. David also gave back to his community, serving on the Echols County School Board and participating as a member of the Free Masons in Statenville.
David loved being outdoors and found his peace in God's creation. In his younger days, he enjoyed running dogs, and in all his years, fishing remained one of his greatest joys - especially when shared with his grandchildren. If David wasn't at home, chances were he was somewhere by the water, casting a line, with a quiet smile on his face or smoking meat on the grill to share with his friends and family.
A man of deep faith, David was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. He loved Jesus with all his heart, and his favorite song, "I Want to Know More About My Jesus," became the soundtrack of his days.
David is survived by his children: Mittch Lehman (Heather), Dawn Pittman (Jamie), and Troy Lehman (Will Kendrick); his brother, Gary Lehman (Patricia); his grandchildren: Savannah Lehman, Chelsea Snyder (Chris), Tayler Damon (Derek), Shane Pittman, and Allen Lehman; his stepchildren: Joshua Wisenbaker (Cheryl), Sarah Stone (Gabe), and Adam Wisenbaker (Courtney); and his step-grandchildren: Andrew Stone, Aubrey Wisenbaker, Melanie Macias, Sophia Macias, and Jaxson Wisenbaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cranford and Vivian Lehman; his wife, Myra Lehman; his brother, George Lehman; and his sister, Cindy Lehman.
David's life will be honored at a graveside service on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home.
David will be remembered for his faithful heart, his love of family, his quiet humility, and the steadfast way he lived out his values. He was a sailor, a father, a brother, a grandfather, a friend, and a man who loved the Lord. His memory will remain an anchor for all who knew and loved him.
