David Michael Limanowski

David Michael Limanowski, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away on November 7, 2020 at the age of 72. He was born in Chicago, the only child to the late Marie Minelli and Theodore Limanowski.

He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL then furthered his degree in architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans. He spent his life thereafter traveling and working in architectural design and contracting. One of his first jobs out of school was for Bechtel, working for two years in the Indonesian jungle building an LNG refinery and support city. During this time he studied under martial arts masters, acquiring his black belt, a passion he would practice until the end of his life.

Upon his return to the United States he worked for Chicago's most respected architectural firms until seeing the vision of modular construction and becoming a forerunner in commercial use prefabricated construction. In 1996 David was the sole contractor selected to provide more than 100 prefabricated modular classrooms under the Daley administrations billion dollar program for public schools rehabilitation.

He acquired his pilots license in his 20's, collecting WWII airplanes which he flew for pleasure and in air shows as his hobby. His joy was his farm and his enormous garden when he was not working and flying.

David was the loving father of Luciana (Lucy), Ruby, and Beatrice (Bebe) Limanowski and former husband to Rachel Schatz.

Funeral Mass Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St., Chicago, IL 60611. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL. Due to Covid restrictions the family will be hosting only immediate friends and family, and those in attendance are required to wear masks at all times. A larger celebration of David's life will be held in 2021.
