David Reeves Linzy, age 82 of Hope, Arkansas entered his eternal heavenly home on April 14, 2025. He was born on June 30, 1942, in Roy, Arkansas to the late Lee and Inez Linzy.
David was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Spring Hill, Arkansas. He graduated from Henderson State Teachers College, now Henderson State University, in 1964 with a bachelor's degree. He taught history and was also a basketball coach until 1972. He loved to be questioned on historical subject items, especially when it concerned WWII. David worked for Davis Discount Lumber for a total of 38 years until he retired. Due to his love for sales and the public he came out of retirement, opening his own window blind business and became a substitute teacher at Spring Hill, Arkansas. He continued to substitute at the school for approximately twelve years.
Mr. Linzy was known by several different names including Husband, Daddy, Pawpaw, Uncle David (regardless of the relation or age difference), Coach Linzy, the Professor, or the Count. He was an avid storyteller, loved working on wooden projects, especially birdhouses, a jokester with a dry-witted sense of humor, enjoyed being around young people to be a positive source of encouragement, and had a love for all animals taking in many stray dogs and cats over the years. Gardening was a passion, and he was known for his tomatoes, greens, squash, okra, and many other vegetables given to many across the community. David's greatest joy was making memories with his two grandchildren. He found great pleasure speaking about their accomplishments, hauling them around to practice, or taking them out for an afternoon snack.
David is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Melva Linzy of Hope, Arkansas; his daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Mark Ford of Spring Hill, Arkansas; his two grandchildren, Charles Ford of Fayetteville (Spring Hill), Arkansas and Kenzie Ford of Spring Hill, Arkansas; one brother, Jerry Linzy of Murfreesboro, Arkansas; one sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Leon Hoover of Murfreesboro, Arkansas; one lifelong friend, Larry Gilleylen of Prescott, Arkansas; and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Bethany Baptist Church in Spring Hill, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Bethany Baptist Church with Bro. Eric Fisher and Bro. Kenneth Bobo officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
