David Lovenheim Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brighton Memorial Chapel, Inc. from Mar. 17 to Mar. 18, 2022.
David, the larger than life, beloved by all who met him, optimistic giant in all ways, 79, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 28, 2022, at his daughter's home in Indian Land, SC. He was in the company of his loving wife, Terry Lovenheim and daughter, Greta Lovenheim.

Born October 1, 1942 (during a blackout) in Hackensack, NJ, he was the son of the late Earl Procurator Lovenheim and Belle Yampolski Lovenheim both of whom David treasured and kept close to his heart his entire life. Following graduation from Monroe High School, David, made his way to Brown University and towards his journey to make a difference in this world. "Majoring" in the Brown Daily Herald, he earned a degree in both political science and economics. He then began law school at George Washington University, and at the same time was the full-time Chief of Staff for New York State's Congressman Frank Horton.

After 13 years on Capitol Hill, David and his then-wife Roberta (nee Levine) decided they wanted their daughters to grow up with loving grandparents and extended family in Rochester, NY. There, he began a 25-year career as a law Partner with Harris Beach, where he furthered his love of all things entrepreneurial by helping over 40 companies develop, introduce, and market new inventions. Thus began his career as a "Riverboat Gambler". Curious about everything by nature, he would often say of himself "V-Ger requires the information" (ask a family member for more about this reference).

The inspiration and joy of David's life was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to Terry, and he adored his daughters – his "mind twin" Helene and his "bright eyes" Greta. David also enthusiastically welcomed Terry's son, Scott, and daughter, Amber, into his heart and family fold, along with his 4 grandchildren, Nevaeh, Kara, Cheyanne, and Ares. He was ecstatic to finally have, at least 1 young man in his immediate family.

David's lifelong love was the United States, its Constitution, and the ideals it was founded upon. He worked tirelessly both professionally and personally, grounded in those ideals for our nation and for the world. Part of this work with the Hungarian Freedom Fighters earned him the Hungarian Republic's Officer's Order of Merit in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Terry (nee Harris); his two daughters, Helene Lovenheim and Greta Lovenheim and their mother Roberta Lovenheim; his step-children, Scott Bradley and Amber Bradley; his sisters; Janet Irwin (Lew Jones) and Lisa Rubiner (Rudolf Rubiner); and his cousins, Barbara Lovenheim, John Lovenheim (Barbara), Martha Siegel, Robert Lovenheim (Christina) Peter Lovenheim, Sue Michlovitz (Paul Velleman) – all of whom David grew up with and considered as siblings; his grandchildren, Nevaeh, Kara, Cheyanne, and Ares; his nieces and nephews; Max, Anthony and Dinah Irwin, Lena and Sam Rubiner and Olga Enyutina; David's parents, Belle and Earl, his aunts and uncles, Clifford (May), Andrew (June), Nate (Mae) and his cousins, Jane and Larry Glazer preceded him in death.

Funeral Services were held Friday, March 4th, 2022 in Charlotte, NC. Interment took place in Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Weddington, NC.

The family will receive friends in Rochester, NY on SUNDAY, March 27, 2022, from 1-5 PM at 95 Towpath Lane.

David is still with us in our hearts and minds. We were long time friends--and we did a lot together in Rochester and when we all lived in the Maryland,Washington,D.C area. He will always be part of our memories. Just a terrific guy!!

I worked with David, back in the mid 60's, in Congressman Horton's office when he was first the Legislative Assistant and the AA to the Congressman. He had a great sense of humor and staff enjoyed his presence and working with him. I have, as does my sister-in-law, Fran, who also worked in the same office, many fond memories of him. We just learned of his passing. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.

David was our life long friend-and will be missed forever. We lived in the Washington,D.C area when David was there, and spent many happy days playing touch football with him--plus many other adventures. A wonderful person--gone too soon.
