David Alvin Luedtke passed away on May 29, 2025 at the age of 94. He was born on May 3, 1931, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
David attended Byron Village School for eight years, followed by Lomira High School, from which he graduated in 1949. He was smitten with Carol Leichtle, and the two were married on August 16, 1952. They enjoyed an astounding 72 years of marriage together and were blessed with two daughters, Christine and Cynthia.
Living out his faith was very foundational to David. His Christian roots began at Evangelical United Brethren Church and continued at Trinity United Methodist Church until his death.
David enjoyed his life, both while working and playing. After graduating high school, he farmed with his father in Byron until 1981, for a total of 32 years. However, the job that was nearest and dearest to his heart was driving school bus for the Lomira School District, which he did faithfully for 53 years (1958-2011). David’s favorite things included indulging on black licorice, tending a bountiful garden every summer, telling stories, and spending time with family.
David and Carol also enjoyed traveling together. They visited England and Ecuador, attended postal conventions throughout the country, and went on many trips with their children and grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife Carol Luedtke, sister Priscilla Ehlert, and daughters Christine Slocum and Cynthia (Steven) Bryant. He is also survived by grandchildren Dustin (Sarah) Fester, Ethan (Mateja) Slocum, and Briana (Matthew) Novacek, five great-grandchildren (Layne, Scarlett Fester & Joseph, Xavier, Otto Novacek), and many nieces and nephews, including one special nephew Jason Ehlert. David was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Laura Luedtke.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
