David Henry Macklenburg

The funeral service for David Macklenburg, 87, of Wood Lake, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the Echo Cemetery.

David Henry Macklenburg was born on July 1, 1938, in Echo Township, to Albert and Erna (Bendix) Macklenburg. He attended country school district 103 through the eighth grade, then attended Echo High School. David served in the United States National Guards from 1961 until 1967. In 1975, David was united in marriage to Dorothy Horejsi, and the couple raised her three children on the farm by Echo. In 2014, David married Darlene Buysse at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. They enjoyed dancing and traveling together. David also enjoyed going to farm shows and going on family vacations.

David died on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview. He is survived by his wife Darlene; step-children Steve Horejsi, Jim (Deb) Horejsi, Dana Horejsi, Joleen (Ron) Schermers, and Mark (Pat) Buysse; grandchildren Randy (Jessica), Cory (Bailey), Heather, Katie, Kevin, Melanie, Andrea, and Travis; great-grandchildren Colton, Lennon, Memphis, Oakley, Sidney, Kitsch, Parker, Penn, Peyton, and Palmer; as well as many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Erna, and brothers Delbert (Janice) and Daniel (Cynthia).
