David Mark Maffett was, and will always be, a beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and partner. He was never afraid to show his love for his people. Whether it was a simple gesture like randomly putting his arm around you and giving you a quick squeeze, or his unwavering loyalty and kindness, Dave made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was perfectly awkward in the most endearing way, and his infectious spirit brought joy to those around him.
We could spend days reminiscing about how much fun it was just to be in his company. From concerts and road trips to dancing and late-night conversations, the memories we shared with Dave are countless. He had a remarkable ability to keep up with everyone’s lives, and we all had the privilege of experiencing the many sides of him.
When his Godchild Isly was born, we saw a side of Dave that we never knew existed. He embraced his role with pride, and their bond grew stronger each day. We are heartbroken that their time together was too short, just as we all wish we had more time with him. Thirty-five years is far too short.
Dave loved the West due to his Grandma Betty’s family reunions. He had the chance to explore different places and spend time with extended family. During Camp Mc Q and their family vacations, Dave would quote word-for-word from the movie Billy Madison, loved family game night (especially the game Balderdash), and served as a look-out for a cousin caper at Camp Suckola.
Dave was an avid skateboarder. He loved working at the skatepark, helping kids find their passion for skating, and helping to build the Saylorville Skatepark. He always spoke so fondly of the time he spent there and still continued to skate in Denver. Dave was also actively pursuing his electrician’s license and spent many years as a commercial electrician. Through that work, he created many close bonds, especially with his crew at EMF.
More than just a friend, Dave was family to so many. His sense of humor, full of playful banter and jokes that could last for days, brought laughter to every room. We deeply miss his goofy, silly humor, and the way he made everything more fun.
It has been an honor to love Dave and to be loved by him. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
Those remaining to miss Dave include his parents, Mark & Becky Maffett, his partner Becca Harris and their dog, Hazel, his grandmother Joan Pagel, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
