David Magill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory - Daphne on Feb. 18, 2026.
David James Magill, resident of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Fairhope, Alabama at the age of 76.

David was a devoted husband and loved his family so much. He will be loved and remembered by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Elaine Magill; his daughter, Shannon Beall and husband Kevin Beall; his son, David Magill II and wife Leah Magill; grandchildren, Makayla Magill, Hannah Fernandez, Harrison Beall, Sawyer Beall, and David James Magill III (Jamie). He is also survived by his sister, Maudell Lewandowki, and a brother, Robert Magill, as well as other family members.

David was born June 7, 1949, in Lakeland, Florida. His dad was in the military, and he lived in many different places while growing up. He spoke often of fond memories of his time in Burkburnett, Texas. David graduated from high school at H.H. Arnold high school in Wiesbaden, Germany, but lived most of his years in the Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana area.

David graduated from LSU University with a BA and MSW degree. He was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and worked in the mental health field. David worked as a mental health counselor, managed the mental health program for Blue Cross of Kansas for many years until he retired. He was an exceptional therapist who helped many people throughout his career in the mental health field.

David was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and was a talented musician. Music played a huge part in his life. He and his wife played music in the Shreveport area for 20 years before moving to Kansas. David and his family had played for worship services at St. Margaret's Church, and he later served as Congregation President at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a devoted friend to all his musician "Brothers" and cherished the friends he made wherever he called home. He loved planting his garden each year and working in the yard. He and his wife got to travel to many places throughout the years.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Belmont Magill and Maudell Magill, and siblings, Beverly, Sue, April, and Belmont Jr., and grandson, Wyatt Ball-Magill.

The family will plan a Celebration of Life sometime in the future.

David; you have been a dear musician brother and friend to me for the past 60 years, and you will be sorely missed. I will cherish all the wonderful moments that we have spent together celebrating our music, and our close, and often times, stellar, bonds. My heart and condolences go out to Elaine and the family, and I will hold you all in my prayers in the days and weeks to come. In closing, dear friend, I will meet you on the other side when the time is right....

Love ya, Brother,
Chuck Hatfield

Uncle David will truly be missed. I will always remember his loving nature. He was such a great role model and the best uncle anyone could ask for.

I remember the day I met Dave when we both worked for MCC. It is a story I am saving for the memorial.
