David Malpass Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Graniteville on Dec. 13, 2025.
Mr. David Henry Malpass, Jr., 36, of Warrenville, SC, known by his family and MANY friends as "D.J.", husband of Crystal Grey Malpass, succumbed to the demons of addiction on Thursday, December 11, 2025. However, please take comfort in knowing the D.J. is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family hopes that D.J.'s death will be a message to all of those who struggle with the bondage of addiction.
Born in Augusta, GA, to Lisa Wilkey (Donald) Boyd and the late David Henry Malpass, Sr., D.J. spent his childhood in Jackson, SC, before calling the "valley" home at nineteen. To know D.J. was to love D.J. He loved people, and they, in turn, loved him. He rarely met a stranger, and within a few minutes of meeting him, you were no longer a stranger; you had a friend.
D.J., like many others, had a life that was filled with "ups and downs." He, however, always tried to make the best out of any situation.
Never known to sit idle, if his eyes were open, his hands and feet were moving. Rarely did any grass grow under his feet. D.J. was formerly a Foreman with Gutter Specialty Services, a business owned and operated by his mentor and friend, Tyler Jones.
The most crucial decision he ever made was to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a continually active member of the Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene, where he served in various capacities without hesitation.
He was happiest when he was serving the Lord through his church, fishing with his Mama, tinkering with small engine repair, etc. However, nothing made him any happier than time spent with all of his family, especially his grandchildren, Maisy, Raiden, Jackson, Piper, Brenae, Trent, Landon, and Layla, who affectionately referred to him as "Poo Paw".
Along with his wife and mother, D.J. is loved, missed and will never be forgotten by Crystal's children, who he loved as if they were his own: Blake (Kayla) Craig, Kayla Nicole Craig (Brandon Croft), and Cadence Ford (Kira); siblings: his younger by ninety seconds twin, Ron (Jessica) Malpass, Nancy Diane (Aaron) Depirro, Laura Brown, and Jeremiah Malpass, a niece, Kylie Malpass, and several nephews: Alan, Levi, and Anthony Cook, and Carmine and Luke Malpass, as well as other extended family members, church family, as well as many other friends.
Also preceding D.J. in death were his father, David Malpass, his grandparents, Wanda and Donald Wilkey, and Georgia and Ardell Malpass, and a granddaughter, Harper Craig.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, beginning at 2 o'clock at the Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene. A service to celebrate D.J.'s life and, most importantly, spread the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ will follow at 3 o'clock at the church. Tyler Jones, David Gallimore, and Mike McAdory, all three of whom had an impact on D.J.'s walk with the Lord, will officiate.
It would be appreciated if memorials in memory of D.J. be given to Inside Out Ministries Recovery Program. (www.mvcommunity.com) D.J. believed in this ministry and would have greatly appreciated this.
